Vladimir Martynov - Opus Prenatum (Fancy Music, 2014)

Post by snobo on Fri Sep 26, 2014 4:56 pm

A straight on contender for the best solo piano album this year - from the label that gave me one of the best solo piano releases of 2013 (Anton Batagov’s Selected Letters of Sergei Rachmaninoff). Fancy Music is a Russian label specialized on releasing modern classical, avantgarde and new jazz from new (and "new old" Russian composers and musicians). Composer Vladimir Martynov (b. 1946) belongs to the latter category. His Opus Prenatum is an hour long propulsive meditation on the piano very akin to Lubomyr Melnyk continuous piano.

RIYL: Lubomyr Melnyk, Nils Frahm, The Necks, Plaistow.
